Satobar

Satobar, Melbourne. Few records remain of this former company entity. From Australian National Measurement Institute (NMI) records: Satobar Pty Ltd of 12 Winslow Crt. Deer Park, Victoria submitted water meters for Australian trade approval. The Satobar Model LXE-25 Water Meter received Australian pattern approval for trade use in 2006. The later Satobar 2 positive-displacement domestic water meter also received NMI approval and remained listed as an approved pattern. Documentation shows several variants, including meters designated LXH2 and LXH20E. An interesting clue is that some Satobar models carried designations such as LXH, which are commonly associated with Chinese-manufactured positive displacement and multi-jet meters, sold globally during the 1990s and 2000s. Suspicion is that Satobar was primarily an Australian importer/distributor branding meters sourced from overseas manufacturers, but as yet there is no found source that explicitly confirms the original manufacturer. That part remains uncertain. The Museums has in its collection (kindly donated by Manly Hydraulic Services -NSW-Gov.) a Satobar LXE-25 25mm meter. The meter was probably being tested by the lab as it is an NMI registered water meter and water dynamics tested lab located at the base of the Historic 1896 Manly Dam. To date no documents have been found of Australian plumbing and irrigation wholesalers' archived PDF libraries from roughly 2000-2012. Utility tender documents where Satobar submitted product literature. The Satobar 2 Water Meter approval was submitted by WINSLOW SERVICES, 12 Winslow Crescent, Deer Park VIC 3023. Later amendments to the Satobar LXE-25 Water Meter approval were also submitted by WINSLOW SERVICES. Earlier versions of the same approval list Satobar Pty Ltd at the same address, suggesting a business continuation, acquisition, rebranding, or administrative transfer. Pictured below a 20mm meter and the 25mm Satobar meter in the Museum's collection.
